In this update, the trash files will be automatically deleted after 30 days. For so long, these files would not be deleted unless the user deleted them manually. These files will be automatically deleted after 30 days of the new update.

The company added that the change in retention policy from October 13 will be seen not only in Google Drive but also in G Suite and Gmail. From then on, users will delete all the files they want to delete. Google will share banners with new updates to alert customers.

Note that this policy change is consistent with the policies of G Suite and Gmail. The new policy will ensure for G Suite users that files marked as the trash are actually deleted. Files marked as a trash can be restored within 25 days. If you do not restore within 25 days, the files will be deleted automatically after 30 days. So from now on, you have to be careful not to delete the emergency file by mistake.
