Oppo Working on Clamshell Foldable Smartphone Patent Reveals

Oppo Working on Clamshell Foldable Smartphone Patent Reveals: Foldable smartphones usually remind us of the name Samsung. However, brands like Huawei and Motorola have also introduced folding devices. This time another Chinese company, OPPO can bring foldable devices. A year ago, OPPO unveiled some information about the prototype foldable smartphone at the Mobile World Congress event. Since then, a lot of time has passed but no further updates have been received from the company.

However, a report from LetsGoDigital yesterday published a patent for a new smartphone of this type. This patent bears a striking resemblance to the Oppo prototype published at MWC in 2019. Looking at the picture, it looks like this phone will be an inverted version of the clamshell design Moto RAZR device, but it has a unique angle detection mode.

At the present time, smartphones like this clamshell can undoubtedly be considered as the best option. For example, Samsung's Galaxy Fold series phones offer a tablet-like experience. Meanwhile, Oppo's new patent looks like it has a special design on the outside to keep the screen folded. It can be a compact smartphone with no secondary display on the external part like Moto RAZR or Z Flip. Interestingly, when the phone is folded, its camera easily fits as a selfie snapper, and when you open the fold, it becomes the rear camera of the device.

Incidentally, LetsGodGital has created a 3D render of the new patent in its report. According to the patent, the phone's fold angle detection feature will automatically detect the "folded" or "unfolded" state of the device. It will sort out all the UI components, depending on how the user uses the handset. Please note that this may include a fingerprint scanner and an iris scanner.

For now, Oppo has not made any announcement in this regard. Now the company, like other Chinese companies, is trying to develop screen glass. As a result, it is normal that Oppo's foldable device will take some more time to come on the market.
